JOIN THE MOMENTUM

For too long, Canadian women athletes have had to navigate a sport system that wasn’t built with them in mind: one that overlooks the realities of motherhood and fertility planning.

MOMentum was created by Olympians and Paralympians who have lived this experience firsthand. We came together to ensure no athlete has to choose between pursuing excellence in sport and building a family.

As a non-profit, MOMentum is dedicated to supporting elite Canadian athletes through motherhood and reproductive decision-making, advocating for systemic change, and providing resources so every athlete has the agency to thrive in both sport and life.

HOW WE SUPPORT ATHLETES

We believe athlete support must be multi-faceted, because no two journeys are the same. At MOMentum, that means building community, offering resources and education, providing financial support, and reshaping the narrative so athlete motherhood is fully integrated into Canadian sport.

  • We’re creating a Canada-wide community where women athletes feel truly heard and supported in their reproductive choices. Our journey began with the Peer-to-Peer Network, and we’re excited to keep expanding with new programs that foster connection and belonging.

Have an idea for how we can strengthen this community? We’d love to hear from you, leave us a note and help shape what comes next.

  • Being an elite athlete in Canada comes with a price tag. For those considering motherhood, raising children, or exploring fertility options, that burden can feel almost impossible. We want to help ease this barrier through grants and other forms of assistance.

We launched our Games Grant to support Team Canada moms competing at the Olympics or Paralympics, and we are exploring additional ways to provide assistance throughout your journey, not just at the pinnacle moments.

  • We know there is a huge gap for elite women athletes when it comes to knowledge around fertility, pre-conception, pregnancy, and returning to sport postpartum. Our goal is to save you the Google work and bring you the best insights from trusted and vetted sources, making it easier to find the information you need when you need it.

We want to be the go-to space for this information, and if you need support in finding an expert, we’re here to connect you with the right resources, whether you’re actively competing or recently retired from sport.

  • We believe that cultural change is key to achieving gender equity for women athletes. For us, that starts with intentional storytelling. Not the glossed-over version that only highlights success, but honest stories that reflect the realities of being a woman in sport.

We also know that motherhood doesn’t look the same for every athlete, which is why we are intentional about representing a wide range of experiences. We refuse to paint one picture of what elite athlete motherhood looks like.

If you’d like to share your story or pitch an idea for a blog post, we’d love to hear from you.

You’re Not Alone in This

Whether you're navigating sport and motherhood, or want to help others do the same, you're not alone.

We’ve created Canada’s only peer-to-peer network to support Team Canada’s women athletes. Whether it’s talking to someone about balancing motherhood with travel, exploring fertility options after sport, or sharing what it’s like to freeze your eggs while training, there’s always someone who understands.

This is a space built by Olympians and Paralympians for athletes, because we know how critical real support is.
