OUr Mission

MOMentum is a non-profit dedicated to ensuring elite Canadian women athletes never have to choose between their careers and starting a family. We provide financial support, education, and advocacy so that motherhood and sport can thrive together.

Our team recognizes the significant gaps that exist for Canadian athletes navigating family planning. Whether it’s returning to competition after having a child, exploring reproductive technologies like egg freezing, or facing cultural and policy barriers, athletes are often left without guidance or support.

Beyond the logistical challenges, there is also a lack of authentic storytelling around these experiences. We believe that sharing these stories is key to driving change and reshaping the sport system.

Not every athlete will see motherhood as part of their career, but many may still need reproductive health support, including egg freezing during or after sport. Others may face fertility challenges after dedicating decades to becoming the best in the world. Too often, these athletes feel alone.

At MOMentum, we believe in the power of community, advocacy, and collaboration to drive real change.

Why we exist

Our approach

  • Elite women athletes should never have to choose between their careers and starting a family. MOMentum provides direct financial assistance to support athletes at all stages of their family planning journey.

    • Games Grant – Financial support for Olympian and Paralympian mothers during their Games year.

We are actively working to expand our financial support offerings to better meet the needs of athlete mothers.

    • Family Planning Grants – Future funding to assist with fertility treatments and egg freezing, a need already voiced by two Paris medalists.

    • Emergency Fund – A planned initiative to provide immediate financial relief for athlete mothers facing unexpected challenges.

  • Access to knowledge and peer support is critical in helping athletes navigate family planning and motherhood while competing at the highest level.

    • Peer-to-Peer Network – Connecting athletes with others who have experienced family planning in sport, creating a strong support system.

    • Research & Engagement – Partnering with NSOs and experts to share insights and develop policies that make sport more inclusive for athlete mothers.

  • To create lasting change, we need to challenge outdated norms, elevate athlete voices, and push for systemic improvements.

    • Disruptive Storytelling – Amplifying real experiences to shift perspectives and break down the stigma surrounding motherhood in sport.

    • Advocacy & Partnerships – Working with policymakers and brands to influence long-term policy changes and ensure athlete mothers receive the support they deserve.
